Annemieke and her husband moved into their bungalow in November 2021 and decided on a complete refurbishment.  The old oil-fired boiler had broken down and was replaced with an air-source heat pump installed by Daylight Energy of Poole.  Window and (double) roof insulation was already in place, keeping the house cool in summer and warm in winter. They have installed all new radiators.

The entire front south-facing roof is being covered with solar panels complete with a single-phase invertor to convert DC electricity to AC.  A scalable battery will store and supply the high amount of energy that the owners require for their work (from home). They do not intend to feed surplus energy to the grid.

A new kitchen with more energy-efficient appliances and a small conservatory on the back for additional solar gain will complete the work. The wooden garden office has double walls, with 50mm insulation between the two walls and in the roof, and small double-glazed windows.
