In 2021 Christopher and Vanessa moved into a 1970s bungalow with an existing 3.99kWp ESE facing solar PV array (installed in 2012) with Fronius 3.6TL inverter and 17 x 235w Schott panels and estimated annual yield of 3,429kWh.

Since moving in a number of improvements have been made, including:

  • Rainwater capture
  • Loft insulation increased to 300mm, with raised boarding over part of loft
  • Drying cupboard and heat pump tumble dryer
  • Electric bicycle conversion (Swytch Electric Bike Conversion Kit)
  • Electric car (64kWh Kia e-Niro 4+)
  • Second 6.57kWp WNW facing Solar PV array with 3680W SolarEdge Inverter and Power Optimisers on 18 x 365w JA Solar panels, estimated annual yield 4,351kWh
  • SolarEdge Energy Bank DC-coupled 10kWh Battery to store excess solar, can also be topped up during off peak tariff on low solar generation days
  • Myenergi Zappi - smart EV charger - operates as a standard EV charger, but it also has optional charging modes to utilise 100% green energy generated from the solar PV arrays
  • Myenergi Eddi - solar diverter, and can set timers to utilise off peak tariff

Other changes include:

  • Energy supplier: Octopus, Go tariff
  • Other energy: RippleEnergy
    • Graig Fatha, operational March 2022, 2.309kW capacity owned - expected annual generation 6,170kWh
    • Kirk Hill, expected operational start date November 2023, 0.747kW capacity owned, expected annual generation 2,370kWh

Future plans include:

  • Rear extension with underfloor heating (to remove poorly built / insulated previous extensions)
  • Removal of oil boiler for ASHP
