STEPS Club for Young People was built in 2012-13, replacing our old youth club building thanks to a £3 Million 'Myplace' grant. The building won an architectural award and scored highly in terms of having a low environmental impact.
There are several 'green' features such as a section of 'green roof', 26 solar panels, bike racks and nesting bricks. We also engage young people in recycling, bird watching and conservation projects as well as climate change awareness.
However, there are improvements we still want to make - especially in terms of our heating system which is a 'low energy underfloor heating system' but uses gas. It would be good to switch to some kind of heat pump in the future. But at least there are features that visitors can observe and see can be incorporated into a public building.
If arriving by car, please park in the free car park on The Marsh (recreation ground) accessed via Knightsdale Rd (postcode DT4 0HU). Then walk down the far side of the indoor bowls centre and up the slope at the side of STEPS to our front entrance.
By Bus/Walking: from Asda, walk up Boot Hill and turn first right into Chickerell Rd. Go under the Rodwell Trail bridge. The Club is about 200 yards further on the right hand side.
