Jill and David made the decision to move into town from South Perrott. This required enlarging and refurbishing the existing 1981 bungalow. They installed 14 solar PV panels, inset into the roof on three different aspects; the solar edge technology optimises the output for different times of day.
The solar-generated electricity charges a Tesla Powerwall battery, and a Zappi electric vehicle charger which will trickle charge their Tesla car when there is spare electicity that they are not using elsewhere.
The Electricity is 100% renewable supplied by Octopus, a 100% renewable supplier. Jill and David are considering switching to a Tesla Virtual Power plant. This is designed for homes with a Tesla Powerwall and car, enabling Tesla to choose when to buy and sell electricity to the grid, which reduces the energy price supplied to the house to around 12p/kWh. Heating is by wired underfloor heating
While the extension of the house, and the roof space throughout, is well insulated, Jill and David are looking to insulate the older part of the bungalow with cavity wall insulation and external cladding.
