Jasmine is a small house with no off-road parking. PV panels are built in-roof on the South and the East facing sections, and the solar edge technology allows comparison of the different aspects - the East-facing is very efficient on winter mornings. David and Gerry have devised an ingenious way of charging their car on the street, and the Octopus night-time tarriff allows the car to be charged for less than £2.50.
They are very keen on getting rid of the boiler but there is not much room for an air source heat pump nor a hot water cylinder; they are looking at instant hot water through a microwave system which wastes less energy than an immersion system. The garden provides some of their firewood in the winter.
While they have an electric vehicle, shopping is done by click-and-collect and collected with a bicycle and trailer, orginally used to ferry their now grown-up children around.
The garden goes back 60m up a step slope with a vegetable patch and soft fruit cage at the end.
